ADAS Windshield Recalibration

ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) is a group of safety functions and designed to improve driver safety and severity and number of traffic accidents. According to the National Safety Council, vehicles with ADAS have reduced the number of head on crashes by 50%. These functions have ability to quickly alerts the driver if the driver should cross over the dividing lanes; therefore, helping to avoid an accident. The cameras are located on the windshield and sometimes on the headliner; therefore, camera recalibration is required by vehicle manufacturers to calibrate anytime a windshield is replaced.

This ensures the system is functioning properly to be able to identify the lines and lanes. Recalibration is a complex procedure and must be done by trained and certified technicians who are able to understand and apply vehicle manufacturer requirements and procedures to complete a calibration successfully and accurately.

At Capital Auto Glass, our specialists are certified and trained to perform this complex recalibration to keep you safe in your vehicle.

Types of ADAS Systems:

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM (LDWS)

Forward facing camera that alerts driver with a sound or vibration if the vehicle is moving out of a lane without turning the signal lights.

LANE KEEP ASSIST (LKA)

Forward facing camera that support and warn driver in preventing the vehicle from departing the lane.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC)

ACC helps to adjust vehicle speed to maintain a safe following distance and stay within speed limits.

FORWARD COLLISION ALERT (FCA)

Forward facing camera to help detect the distance the driver’s vehicle and vehicle in front with an audio beeping sound.

BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM)

Advanced system that detects other vehicles located to the driver’s side and rear side. If other vehicle is detected, the system will give out a warning with visual, audible beeping / buzz sound or a vibration effect.

TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION (TSR)

Advanced technology that allows a vehicle to recognize the traffic signs on the road such as “speed limits”, or “children” or “turn ahead” This safety system recognizes the traffic sign and relays and displays the information on the driver’s infotainment screen.

PEDESTRIAN DETECTION (PD)

This system alerts driver of any pedestrians or moving object such as cyclist may be near the vehicle’s path.

TYPES OF CALIBRATION:

Static Calibration

Static calibration is performed while the vehicle is parked in-shop. Static calibration is more complexed; therefore, must be done in a controlled environment. Our certified specialists use high quality calibration equipment including laser to successfully and accurately recalibrate the ADAS system to OEM standard of vehicle manufacturer.

Dynamic Calibration:

Dynamic calibration is performed while driving on the road. Dynamic is done with a portable hand-held electronic device which is plugged to vehicle’s OBD ll port. To restore the function of ADAS sensors, the vehicle is driven at specific speeds and good weather conditions.
